The violin is one of the most complex and subtle musical instruments to learn how to play, requiring a great amount of study and practice. But as one learns, it brings increasing enjoyment and a growing sense of accomplishment.
The materials I draw on include traditional musical studies and solos from the great composers as well as the Suzuki series of solos, Volumes 1-10.
My goal is to help every student reach his or her full potential in playing this wonderful instrument by mastering the fundamentals of technique and then proceeding to higher levels step by step. Mid-level and advanced students are prepared for orchestral auditions, tests, and concert play through strengthening in the basics while rapidly progressing in technique. Beginning students are enabled to play solo and orchestra pieces in a relatively short period of time.
In addition, students from all levels are prepared for the Solo & Ensemble Festival -Virginia each spring (grades 4-12) as well as being prepared for auditions with the Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) Junior District Orchestra (grades 7-8); Senior District Orchestra (grades 9-12); Senior Regional Orchestra; and Virginia All-State Orchestra.
I have found that providing students constant feedback and plenty of encouragement, with regular practice, are the keys to success.
